High School Senior

Here is my High school Sr. picture. And here is the story:

I was invited to the Prom my Junior Year by this very out-casted and somewhat obnoxious "Little Person" (is that PC?) whose name I cannot remember, but I will look up and edit later. I bought a dress. This Dress. It was some velvet-like material on the top, fitted, and had a very full skirt in the same color green on the backdrop for this photo. It was pretty sweeeet, let-me-tell you! The DAY BEFORE the jr. prom this guy called me and told me he was just kidding about taking me to the prom, and he would not be going. I was so devistated. Totally duped. I didn't really want to go with him in the first-place, but I was trying to reach out, and be a good person, and well get to go to the prom anyway. But, I had been used by a total outcast highschool jerk and it was not to be. The dress hung in my closet, and life went on.

When it was time for my Senior pictures, I was told to bring two or three outfits to the studio. It was just me and this lady in a small, cold studio. I posed for a few in a casual floral dress and sweater (who wears a sweater in a portrait?), and another in a tee-shirt and then put on this dress. She complimented me, and I felt very nice in it. Pretty, even. Of course, I was sitting on a stool, so none of the DRESS really showed. Just that black fitted top. At one point, though, the photographer brushed me hair over one shoulder. She noticed, at that time, something I had forgotten about.

She said, "I thought this was a prom dress?"
"It was," I said.
"And you wore it?"
"Yes, "I lied.
"Well, it has the tag hanging from under your armpit. How did you go to an entire prom and not notice the tag?"

Yea, I was busted! I remember at the time being very disappointed in all my pictures, even though I used this one for the yearbook. Now, I think it is sweet, and I can almost make out the embarassment in my smile from the photographer finding that tag.

What a great story - and what a great dress. I think you look pretty foxy Miss Dani. And I think the tag is a symbol that missed opportunities knock again sometimes. Here you are posing in a beautiful dress that made you feel beautiful on that day...that's sort of what prom quickly becomes - merely a picture of a girl in a pretty dress. And just think, you didn't even have to endure an unpleasant date to get the photo!
