I received an email yesterday that my teacher from middle school (with Cancer) has taken a turn for the worse in the last 30 hours. Yesterday, they expected he would not be much longer-- It made me sad, of course, but it also afforded me peace and hope. In her message, his faithful wife said...." We all share a huge bond: an incredible love for John in whatever role he's played in our life, and every one of you has shown this to him. Knowing just how much you care has been almost as precious to him as having you all in his life has been."
His wife was able to fill me completely with this one closing remark--indeed in the last few weeks I have left many messages for him on his blog--and I can gratefully count myself among those that he can know cares for him. For all the times we are given to offer our hearts to others, I am so glad I have been able to impart some love for him to take with him to heaven!!
For His part, God has given us everything we need to know. He did so long before most of the gospels were written. In my view--everything God has been telling us ever since OT time has just been a reiteration, or review of this point. He told us from the beginning that everything that was made, was made by the hand of his first/only begotten son. God could have created his perfect world, and remained infinitely. He chose, however, to create a SON. He chose to make family part of his perfect existence. God gave us family--and family is what we most need to attend to, appreciate, love, honor and care for infinitely. God gave us family, and everything he has told us from that point has been about how to care for it in a godly way.
I am so grateful for the examples of good, and loving, and appreciative and giving families!
I am grateful for my family, and I am grateful for yours. Let us love one-another as family to each other....for literally, that is what we are--and I hope never to forget that!
