House Rules

So, Joe and I are working on blending this tremendously talented and spirited group. We have decided we need to develop a family Motto, Constitution and House Rules. It is going to be a long process....but I have started brain-storming my ideas.

Right now, my personal favorite Motto is:

Live to sow on earth what can be reaped in heaven.

And, here is my first go-around at house rules and a family constitution:

Family Constitution:
If it is yours, take care of it.

If you make a mess, clean it up.

If you are responsible for something, admit it.

If you borrow something, return it.

If someone does something for you, acknowledge their effort.

Hurting is never okay.

Act like you want to be treated.

Forgive. Your emotions are your choice.

Remember that EVERYONE is God’s child, including you, so make your Father proud.

House Rules:

Use seat-belts and helmets for safety at all appointed times.

If you take something out, put it away.

We have to know where you are, and who you are with.
(Or in other words, when plans change, no matter how small, LET US KNOW (note, call, email).)

Always tell someone where you are going when you leave the house/yard.

No shoes or food upstairs.

If you wouldn’t say it to a baby, don’t say it to anyone. (No swearing)

Hurting is never okay.

Do not make a toy out of a tool.

Do not take anything that is not yours without asking—we borrow, not STEAL.

If you are going to eat it/ate it, you have to help take care of it (put it away, clean-it up, etc)

If you didn’t pay for it, treat it twice as nice as if you did (or in other words, take care of your things)

We are not just a family, we are a team. Everyone is needed, nobody is benched, and time-outs are sometimes required.

Ask, do not demand.

If it is not your space, don’t make it yours (or, in other words, don’t leave your personal things in common areas).

Never, ever use a gun, bow, sharp knife or any other weapon without one of your PARENTS with you.

There is absolutely no alcohol, tobacco, or cigarettes to be used by anyone under 21.

Drugs are illegal here and everywhere. There will be ZERO tolerance if you use or are with anyone using drugs.

No people of the opposite sex are allowed in your bedroom with the door closed.

Your body is yours, only. Nobody has any rights to touch, hurt, or otherwise use it but you.

Make all your choices like they really matter, THINK before you act.
